Obituary for Edward Merle Carroll

Edward Merle  Carroll
Edward M. Carroll, 82 of Sissonville passed away on May 29, 2017 in East Brook Nursing Home.

He was born in Nobelstown, PA to the late Joseph & Amelia Carroll. Ed was a graduate of McDonald High School and the University of Steubenville.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Mary L. Carroll; sister, Janet Seibel, and brother, Joseph Carroll, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are mother-in-law, Lola Price Underwood of Sissonville; sister, Linda Wyke of McDonald, PA; daughter, Constance Johnson and her husband, Percy of Sissonville; son, Edward M. Carroll II and Jan Spano of Logan; grandchildren, Jessica McDowell and her husband Michael of Fort Shaw, MT and Jennifer Canfield of Cumberland, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ed was involved in many service organizations. He was a member of South Charleston Lodge #168 A.F. and A.M. He drove the van to transport children to the Shriners Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was a member of the international Association Legion of Honor and the Royal Order of Jesters. Ed was a member Eastern Star Tiskelwah # 45 and American Legion Post #485 in McDonald, PA. He served in the Army. He was the past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #202. He was drug awareness chairman, volunteered with the handicap children’s camp and scholarships awards. Ed was a member of the Moose Lodge #1444 and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association.


A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, June 1 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 1pm on Friday, June 2 at Long & Fisher Funeral Home with Reverend Al Mendez officiating. Entombment will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children: 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, KY 40508 or Hubbard Hospice House: 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
